POLYMNIA is an intelligent cross-media platform for
the production of custom video souvenirs for visitors to leisure and
cultural heritage venues.
Visitors are visually tracked by cameras as they enjoy a venue by
human detection and tracking technology. Live video stream channels
are constantly available to friends and family so they can share in
the visitors experience at the venue. A personalized DVD, or a less
expensive eCard, souvenir is produced at the end of a visitor's stay
which can be purchased, allowing visitors to relive their experiences
at the park well after the initial visit.
POLYMNIA technology scales well to large venues,
such as theme parks or museums, and we have installed and tested POLYMNIA
in a real theme park as part of our final project evaluation. The
POLYMNIA consortium has gained a lot of practical experience and is
well placed to exploit these results.

The concept, upon which POLYMNIA is based, started
9 years ago as the vision of Christos Mangos, a Greek cinema director
of photography. Mr Mangos participates in the project consortium with
Cinegram, a Greek film production
company, included among the main contractors of the POLYMNIA project.
POLYMNIA is a 30 months research and development
project co-funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework
Programme, Priority 2 "Information Society Technologies". The project
ended in March 2007 and the consortium are currently actively looking
to exploit POLYMNIA technology commercially and collaborate in new
related R&D projects to extend the work done within POLYMNIA.
